An insight into the responses of 1-MCP (1-Methyl cyclo propene) on the ripening control and shelf life extension of Mango

Mango is one of the most important edible fruit crops in the world and is consumed by millions of people as one of the most delicious fruits with dietary benefits. Post-harvest shelf life extension has been a problem for over years due to its climacteric respiration pattern and sensitivity to low temperatures. Extensive research has been carried out in this area for many decades. Among the various existing technologies, 1-MCP which extends shelf life of fresh fruits and vegetables by reducing their respiration rate is gaining popularity. In the present review, an attempt has been made to summarize some of the important aspects behind the ripening physiology of mango and effect of 1-MCP on ripening process.
